Western Freqs

by Michael Lightborne

A fever-dream of Country ‘n Irish music that descends into a dub-tank collage-history of the music, the people, the dreams and nightmares. Sampled, deconstructed and processed, each episode confronts the strange memories of this misunderstood music. Below the kitsch surface lies a deep, generative weirdness, which this series will attempt to extrapolate and re-integrate. Exploring the outer reaches of Country n’ Irish, this show will try to uncover something about the dark heart of Irish nationhood through a deep analysis of an endlessly strange and culturally promiscuous genre. Each episode will find echoes in unexpected places, times and musics; its tendrils reaching out across history and geography. As such, it will be more of a delirious, erratic talking cure than methodical history.

Exploring the diverse people and groups in and around Cork who are doing interesting and hope-giving projects, actions, and work around biodiversity, climate action, nature connection, ecological and nature friendly farming, forest school and much more. There are so many people doing heaps of wonderful things with and for the living world. I’m so excited to share interviews with them here. You’ll hear from lots of groups you could follow and join, and hopefully there’ll be ideas of actions you can take in your own life to become more connected to the living world around you.
