The Lost Weekend

No chatting on this edition of The Lost Weekend. Instead: an hour of golden age hip hop for the summertime.

I had planned for this show to come out in July, and wish I could have made it in time for then - I think of it as a “peak July” mix.

There are two film clips in this mix with some interesting lore behind the first one. It’s an excerpt from Sister Act 2 that has an unknown hip hop track in the background. It’s credited to an artist called Devin Karmin and has been called “Ladder to the Land” or “It’s Me Again, God”. It’s gained a bit of a cult following as it can’t be found anywhere. Some people have released their own recreations of it online. I’m not a big record collector (yet) but imagine being lucky enough to find an original recording of this song…

The second film clip featuring Xzibit and Nic Cage is only there for fun and because the key phrase is in both the preceding and succeeding tracks - ’til the break of dawn, baby 🎶
