Sounds From the Back Room w/t Ant of Generic People
by Ant of Generic PeopleThis month’s show is a tale of two halves, the 1st hour I dive into the records that have been doing the biz for me over the last few months…. disco/house/cosmic is the vibe.
and in the 2nd hour I have dug deep in to my record collection, focusing on some of the tracks that have influenced my own sounds in the studio and influenced my (unreleased) album ‘Viva Electronica ’ I finished recording last year.
Every track in this mix was released between 1980 - 1989 . The electronic music of this era was very much in an experimental and evolutionary stage and at the time was considered to be quite futuristic, The beauty of it for us was the fact that it was so open-ended in terms of style, with no strict adherence to specific songwriting rules but rather an attitude and spirit that combined aspects of punk and pop with a slick production sheen. A lot of this music was directly influenced by the use of TR-808 drum machines, modular synthesizers and funk sampling and has created the templates for today’s club music that is now common place on our sound systems.
