I took this photo at the opening of Basil Al-Rawi’s House of Memory. This sort of silver tray holds a strong nostalgic power over me. A small family heirloom that can be packed in a carry-on and moved across oceans in a pinch. Would your ancestors recognize the foreign technology it holds now?

I’m sure my family could come to understand it as they have always come to understand alien landscapes, by bringing ancient technologies forward with them.
