C'mere to me w/ Noreen Murphy
by Noreen Murphy Archive Not AvailableI spoke to Usman Sharif and Luke Cooney about their research in Sociology and Climate Change.
Luke Cooney is based in Cork, pursuing an MA in Sociology at University College Cork with a particular focus on Climate change and transitions to a more sustainable future. His research draws insights from experiences living in the heart of the Golden Vale in Ireland and also an off-grid lifestyle on a sailboat in the north of Spain. In the past, he has been involved in climate activism in both Ireland and mainland Europe, and is also a strong believer in sociology as a valuable tool to navigate the climate crisis. Currently in his MA research project, he is exploring ideas related to unsustainable consumption, social inertia, inadequate climate solutions and the creation of a sustainable ‘good life’.
Usman Sharif is also based in Cork, Ireland, and is currently pursuing an MA in Sociology at University College Cork. He has been living in Ireland for over 15 years and has worked across both the public and private sectors. Alongside his professional work, Usman has been actively involved in local community initiatives, particularly those promoting cultural exchange and the integration of migrant communities in Ireland.
His academic work focuses on public sociology, with a particular interest in bringing sociological research into the public domain. Through his MA research project, he explores themes of climate justice and examines how sociological knowledge can contribute to public understanding and discussions around climate inequality.
